A light, calming wellness drink for tea houses & bottled-beverage brands — no bitter finish.

Which lotus to order: Coreless (drilled) — no bitterness is the non-negotiable for a clean tea profile.

Lotus tea is where 'wellness' and 'refreshment' meet. Traditional Chinese tea rooms have long served lotus for its calming character; today, ready-to-drink and bottled brands are rediscovering it as a clean-label ingredient that needs no caffeine and no artificial flavor.

There is exactly one non-negotiable: no bitterness. The green plumule is the source of lotus's bitter note, so tea and drink brands specify coreless (drilled) seeds — a decision that shapes their entire sourcing spec.

Ingredients

  • Coreless (drilled) lotus seeds
    40 g
  • Water
    1 L
  • Red dates (jujube)
    2–3
  • Honey or rock sugar
    to taste

Method

  1. 1

Optional: lightly toast 40 g coreless lotus in a dry pan 2 min for a nuttier aroma.

  2. 2

Simmer the lotus with 2–3 red dates in 1 L water 30 min until the seeds are tender.

  3. 3

Strain; sweeten with honey or rock sugar to taste.

  4. 4

Serve warm, or chill for a refreshing iced lotus drink.

Tips

  • Tip 1:Coreless = no bitterness — the tea stays naturally sweet, with no need for extra sugar to mask it.
  • Tip 2:For a bottled RTD line, confirm a consistent roast or simmer profile so every batch tastes identical.
  • Tip 3:drilled lotus for beverages is sold Grade 1, sulphur-free; request a core-removal rate ≥99.9% to avoid stray bitter bits.
